Greetings from our Band Department!  We count it a pleasure and honor to be able to offer band classes for students from 4^th grade through graduation!  Beginning band musicians start in 4^th or 5^th grade and progress accordingly until they are ready to enter our high school band.  It is a joy to see each musician progress from the very beginning to playing complex music by wonderful composers from various periods in musical history.  We are a concert band, offering instruction in woodwinds, brass, and percussion.  We would love to encourage your child in pursuing a musical journey!                                                                                                               

Beginner Band - 4th and 5th graders have the opportunity to start their band journey at the introductory level.  They may choose from woodwinds, brass, and percussion instruments.  A concentration on note recognition, tonality, and technique are the major goals for this band, preparing them for future participation at each level.                    

5^th Grade - Students who have completed the beginner level may advance and participate in the 5^th grade band.  Continuing the concentration of note recognition, tonality, and technique along with more difficult music will further prepare them for the middle school band.  The 5^th grade band performs in the Christmas and Spring band concerts.                                                                                                                                                                           

Middle School - Students who have successfully completed the beginner and 5^th grade bands will advance to the middle school band. Teaching more complex rhythms as well as tonality and technique will prepare the middle school band member for our high school band.  The Middle School band members have the opportunity to compete in State competitions as well as the ACSI Fine Arts Festival, and Jr. All-State Jazz Band. They also perform in the Christmas and Spring band concerts.                                                                                                                  

High School - Students in the RLCA high school band understand the performance demands of a variety of musical styles.  They demonstrate musical maturity and professionalism, which is needed to successfully accomplish the wide variety and difficulty level of their repertoire, including but not limited to jazz, blues, sacred, and classical styles.  Members of the high school band may audition for All-State Jazz Band, All-State Band, and ACSI Fine Arts Festival.  The high school band performs at the Christmas and Spring band concerts, Grandparents Day, Delaware Veterans Cemetery, and has performed the Star-Spangled Banner at the Blue Rocks.
